Swedish Air Force Historic Flight

Former Västgöta Veteranflyg förening—VVF

The primary purpose of the Swedish Air Force Historic Flight, SwAFHF is to operate and preserve aircraft and material that was previously part of the Swedish Air Force. This also includes using and preserving technical equipment and production equipment for certain items and spare parts. The Association also develops methods for the continual care of aircraft and material. The Association has been inexistence since 1998.

It operates the J 29F Tunnan, Hawker Hunter, de Havilland Vampire, Sk 16 Harvard, SK 50 and SK 61. Other non-airworthy projects are the SK 35C Draken, SK 60 and AJS 37 Viggen.

Together with the Swedish Defence Forces which has preserved examples of the J 32 Lansen, J 35 Draken and SK 37 2-seat Viggen, almost all of the Swedish Air Force jet era aircraft are maintained in airworthy condition.

The SwAFHF is authorised by the Swedish Civil Aviation Authority. Operations are carried out and developed in accordance with the regulations for civil and military aviation.

The Association is based at the Såtenäs Garrison which allows the Association to keep its aircraft there. In recognition of its historical association with the Swedish Air Force the aircraft are permitted to use this as their operational base.

Operations are financed via sponsorship, members’ fees and appearances at air shows. In recent years the Association’s aircraft have been seen in the air by about half a million spectators in Sweden and Europe.
